Four years ago, while going through some boxes in the attic left to him by his grandfather, Tom Shea found a recipe for a steak sauce. “Lots of Zip!” Grandpa Shea wrote on the top of the yellowed 3”x 5” card. Curious, Tom made a batch. “It has a flavor profile unlike anything out there,” said Tom, founder of Great Lakes Gourmet.

“Zip-It is cream-based so it really sticks to the meat. As I tweaked the recipe, I realized it’s unlike any of the broth, tomato or gravy-based sauces on the market. And depending on the amount of butter you add, you can create your own flavor intensity from bold to mild. This gourmet sauce is so fantastic it’s more of a dipping sauce for filets”, said Tom.

One launch advertising piece targeting grocers reads “Did you ever think you’d live long enough to see beef fly? Now you will.” insinuating that Zip-It Steak Sauce is so tasty that it will drive more beef sales—and the beef will be flying off grocers shelves. The brand is also being supported with in-store merchandising displays, POS signage and other marketing support.
